WHAT IS UPPER CERVICAL CARE?
Because upper cervical care is a passion at Kindred Chiropractic, we want to help you understand more about this special interest of chiropractic so that you can make an informed decision about your healthcare.
Upper Cervical Care focuses on the top two bones of your spine, C1 (Atlas) and C2 (Axis) and offers PRECISE and GENTLE adjustments.
WHY ONLY TWO VERTEBRAE?
Your C1 and C2 vertebrae have very specialised roles. Their function and shapes are also completely different from all the other bones in your spine.
Because they balance the head, even a slight misalignment in these two bones can result in changes throughout the spine. Also, because they are part of the 7 neck vertebrae of your cervical spine, they help to facilitate blood flow to the brain via the vertebral foramen – a bony tunnel in which your arteries run.
The atlas plays an even more important role. It surrounds and protects the brainstem right at the vital juncture where it meets the spinal cord. Therefore, even the tiniest misalignment can affect the function of the central nervous system by putting pressure on the brainstem and reducing blood flow.
EVERY BODY IS UNIQUE & NO TWO ADJUSTMENTS ARE THE SAME
Precision is key with Upper Cervical care, because this area of your spine is vital to your function. The wrong adjustment could make matters worse or affect your nervous system in unpredictable ways. We go to great lengths to make sure we do right by you…we don’t like to guess or waste time.
If you are a candidate for Upper Cervical care, you will be referred for special diagnostic imaging which allows us to see your unique anatomy and examine the misalignment in 3D. Your adjustment is calculated and we will customize an adjustment to your unique needs. This is why your chiropractor will probably not adjust you at your first visit.
PRECISE AND GENTLE ADJUSTMENTS
Once your analysis and adjustment calculations have been completed, your Report of Findings visit can be scheduled. At this visit, your care plan will be presented and you are ready to experience the benefits of your first adjustment.
Your adjustment will be discussed with you, but tends to involve you lying on your side with a specialised headpiece which drops away when the chiropractor makes a light, fast adjustment with their hands. The adjustment involves no twisting of your neck.
The changes to your function and health can be just as unique as your anatomy. Some can notice positive changes very quickly, but chronic concerns can take a little longer to show change. The frequency and amount of visits in your care plan will also be unique to your case.
