CONGRATULATIONS! This is an exciting time, packed with amazing changes to your family and your body. Your growing belly is gorgeous, but naturally, it can introduce some extra stress on your spine and nervous system. During these changes, it is important to maintain healthy spine and nervous system function to ensure the healthy development of both mum and bub, plus some additional benefits… HOW DOES YOUR BODY CHANGE? Because of your growing belly there are major changes in your movement patterns and a shift in weight-bearing, which place extra pressure on the spine, muscles and other soft tissues of the body. A study shows that approximately 50% of pregnant women reported significant back or pelvic pain during their pregnancies. Chiropractic care has been shown to ease symptoms in up to 85% of pregnant women, decreasing the need for pain-relief medication that may not be ideal for the baby’s health. What does the research say? Of course, every woman desires a comfortable and pain-free pregnancy as well as healthy labour and delivery. As the baby progresses into the birth canal, it is important that the mother’s pelvis is able to facilitate the delivery. By encouraging proper pelvis and spinal function with chiropractic care, research has shown a 24% reduction in labour time for first-time mothers, and 39% reduction for experienced mothers. THAT IS MASSIVE! Another study found that patients who incorporated chiropractic adjustments during their pregnancy had a 50% decrease in the need for pain-relief during delivery. OUR APPROACH At Kindred Chiropractic we are passionate about checking spines and nervous systems to correct any dysfunction. With an expecting mum, we are aiming for a balanced pelvis with the opportunity for the baby to move into an ideal birthing position. And since the uterus is controlled by the nervous system all the time, including labour, it only makes sense to ensure nerve pathways to the uterus is free of interference. If you are interested in the possibility of having a more comfortable pregnancy and decreased labour time, please get in touch to schedule your initial appointment.
